Dear Moreno Valley Unified School District Community,
Next week, our schools will join millions of others across the nation in celebrating Red Ribbon Week, a time dedicated to promoting healthy, drug-free lifestyles and reinforcing the importance of making positive choices. This year’s theme, “Life is a puzzle, solve it drug free” reminds us that protecting our mental and physical health depends on the decisions we make each day.
Throughout the week, our schools will host a variety of Red Ribbon Week activities—including spirit days, classroom lessons, student pledges, art contests, and assemblies that emphasize resilience, kindness, and smart decision-making. These events are designed to engage students in conversations about the value of living drug-free and caring for themselves and others.
Parents and guardians play a vital role in this effort. Talking with children about the dangers of drugs and alcohol can make a lasting difference. For younger children, focus on healthy habits, such as choosing nutritious foods, getting enough sleep, and saying “no” to anything that can harm their bodies. For middle and high school students, discuss the real-life consequences of substance use and emphasize how peer pressure can be overcome through confidence and support from trusted adults. Keeping these conversations open, honest, and age-appropriate helps children feel comfortable seeking guidance when they need it most.
Together, we can empower our students to make safe, responsible choices and build a community that supports wellness and belonging for all. Thank you for partnering with us in helping our students stay drug-free and Powered by Purpose .
With appreciation,
Dr. Alejandro Ruvalcaba Superintendent of Schools Moreno Valley Unified School District
